The Michigan State Spartans won 11 games in head coach Mel Tucker's first year at the helm, but limp into this game having lost three straight. Last week, Michigan State surrendered 489 yards of total offense during a 27-13 road loss against Maryland. The Spartans (2-3) committed six penalties for 47 yards and allowed the Terrapins to possess the ball for more than 36 minutes in defeat.
Michigan State drew even in the first quarter on a 12-yard touchdown run by Elijah Collins. Payton Thorne threw for 221 yards and an eight-yard touchdown strike to Jayden Reed.
