Oakland suffered their sixth straight loss as their pitching proved unable to contain the Orioles’ bats, wasting an above average offensive performance. The A’s dropped to 2-9 on the season and entered Wednesday in the basement of the AL West, five games behind the Rangers for the top spot. Against Baltimore Tuesday, Oakland got two hits each from Brent Rooker (run, RBI), Jace Peterson (run, two RBI) and Kevin Smith (run, RBI) while Shea Langeliers blasted his second homer of the year in a losing effort. Kyle Muller didn’t factor in the decision as he allowed six runs on seven hits with three walks and three strikeouts over four innings of work. Sam Moll (0-1) took the loss as he allowed two runs on no hits with a walk, a strikeout and a hit batter in two-thirds of an inning of relief.

Adam Oller is expected to get the ball for Oakland as he makes his third appearance and first start of the season in this contest. He has no record, a 4.66 ERA, a 1.345 WHIP, five walks and six strikeouts over 9.2 innings of work on the year. Oller didn’t factor in the decision in his last outing, which came in relief against the Rays Friday night. He threw five innings, allowing one run on two hits with three walks and three strikeouts in a game that the A’s ended up losing 9-5. Oller took the loss in his lone career start against the Orioles, which came on September 3, 2022. He threw five innings, allowing six runs on eight hits, including four homers, with three walks and four strikeouts in an 8-1 A’s defeat. That outing came at Oriole Park at Camden Yards, so he has at least a passing familiarity with the park.
