The 14th-seeded Notre Dame Fighting Irish try to extend their season at least one more day as they take on the 11th-seeded Virginia Tech Hokies Tuesday night. Notre Dame was waxed 87-64 on the road by Clemson in their previous contest Saturday, failing to cover as a 9.5-point underdog. Virginia Tech cruised to an 82-60 home victory over Florida State Saturday in their previous game, covering the line as a 10-point favorite. In the all-time series between the teams, each team has won nine times. The Hokies have won the last five meetings, including a 93-87 road win in the lone meeting this season February 11.

Notre Dame couldn’t build off their upset win over Pitt as they were pasted by Clemson in their finale Saturday. The Fighting Irish dropped to 11-20 overall and were 3-17 in the conference: they are trying to give Mike Brey at least one more game as head coach as he’s retiring at the end of the season. Against Clemson, Notre Dame gave up the opening six points of the game and found themselves on the wrong end of a 20-3 score seven minutes into the contest. The Fighting Irish never got closer than 14 the rest of the way. Notre Dame shot 34.4% from the field, including 10 of 29 from three-point range, and allowed Clemson to shoot 50.8% in the contest. Cormac Ryan led the Fighting Irish with 19 points in the loss.
The Fighting Irish stand 226th in the nation in scoring offense as they average 69.8 points per game. Notre Dame is pulling down an average of 31.1 rebounds per conte st (342nd) while the team is dishing out 12 assists a night. The Fighting Irish are below average on the defensive end of the floor as they allow 72.3 points per game this year, leaving them 245th in scoring defense. Nate Laszewski is one of four players averaging in double figures on the team with 14 points plus 7.2 rebounds per game this season. Dane Goodwin (11.4 points, 5.1 rebounds) and J.J.
