Two teams heading in opposite directions will do battle on Saturday when the Notre Dame Fighting Irish hit the road to take on the Virginia Cavaliers in ACC action. In a season full of bad news, the Notre Dame men's basketball program got some good news recently when head coach Mike Brey announced that he has decided against retiring after this season and will return for a 24th season at Notre Dame next year. The next step for Brey will be to bring the program back to prominence. The Irish are just 2-13 in league play this season and sit in 14th place in the ACC. On Tuesday night, Notre Dame battled Duke all the way before falling 68-64 on the road. Dane Goodwin led the Irish with a season-high 25 points, including scoring 17 straight points for Notre Dame in the second half.

Notre Dame, not surprisingly, is ranked near the bottom of the rankings in most categories in the ACC this season. The Irish are ninth in the ACC in scoring offense thus far on the season. They are 10th in field goal percentage and sixth in 3pt field goal percentage. Notre Dame has done a great job at protecting the basketball, ranking first in fewest turnovers per game. The Irish are 13th in scoring defense and 15th in defensive field goal percentage. They are just 10th in 3pt defense this season in the ACC as well. On the glass, Notre Dame is 15th in total rebounding.
