Notre Dame vs. NC State Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 1-24-2023

Two teams that appear to be going in polar opposite directions will square off on Tuesday night as the Notre Dame Fighting Irish visit the North Carolina State Wolfpack. The Fighting Irish, who have recently learned that this will be head coach Mike Brey's final season, have struggled to a 9-11 mark this season. NC State, meanwhile, is 15-5 on the season and have been one of the surprise teams in the ACC. The opening tap for this matchup is scheduled for 7:00 pm EST.

Recently, Notre Dame head coach Mike Brey announced this would be his final season and that he would be retiring at year's end. Unfortunately, given his team's run thus far, Notre Dame's winningest head basketball coach will not be enjoying one final dance in the NCAA Tournament. The Fighting Irish come into this matchup at just 9-11 on the season and a dismal 1-8 in ACC play. On Saturday, Notre Dame's league woes continued with an 84-72 loss to Boston College at home. The team rallied back from a 14-point deficit to take the lead in the second half but then watched as the Eagles caught fire down the stretch to pull away with a double-digit win. Nate Lazewski led the Irish with 29 points, including 7-of-9 from 3pt range. Dane Goodwin chipped in with 13 points in the victory.

The Irish come into this game on a three-game losing streak. They have won just one game in conference, a 73-72 overtime win over Georgia Tech. The Irish have the 188th ranked scoring offense in the nation. They are 118th in field goal percentage but are outstanding from long-range, 30th in the nation in 3pt shooting. The Fighting Irish are protective of the basketball, ranked 4th in the country in fewest turnovers per game. Notre Dame's defense has not been as strong as its offense this season. They are ranked 206th in the nation in points allowed per game. They are ranked 314th in the nation in defensive field goal percentage and 201st in 3pt field defense. Notre Dame is ranked 339th in the nation in total rebounding.
