Notre Dame Fighting Irish Bowl Game History (Wins, Appearances and All-Time Record)

Bowl game season is underway after an exciting 2022 college football campaign. One successful program taking part in the postseason once again is the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, who will face South Carolina in the Gator Bowl on Friday, Dec. 30.

Here's everything you need to know about Notre Dame's bowl game history before making its next appearance.

Notre Dame Bowl Game History

College football fans shouldn't be shocked to find out Notre Dame has built a lengthy bowl game history over the year. The Fighting Irish have played in a bowl game in each of the last six years and have racked up 40 bowl game appearances all-time prior to the Gator Bowl on Friday afternoon.

Notre Dame's first bowl appearance came in the 1925 Rose Bowl under head coach Knute Rockne. The Fighting Irish defeated Stanford by a score of 27-10 to earn its first bowl win. T hey went on to win six of their next eight bowl game appearances after that season, all against ranked opponents.

The Fighting Irish's most recent bowl appearance came in last year's Fiesta Bowl under the guidance of head coach Brian Kelly. Notre Dame fell short in a 39-37 loss to Oklahoma State and has lost back-to-back bowl games. It will have a chance to end that streak in front of the Jacksonville crowd.
