Northeastern vs. Towson Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 1-26-2023

Northeastern (8-11 SU, 7-12 ATS, 4-4 CAA) faces Towson (14-7 SU, 11-10 ATS, 6-2 CAA) on the road on a big CAA matchup on Thursday night at SECU Arena at 7pmET.

Last season, Towson won two of three against the Huskies, but Northeastern covered all three games.

Northeastern had just two conference wins last season and while four is not where they want to be at the end, it's an improvement. They had won three of their last four games, beating Delaware at home and Stony Brook on the road, before facing No. 18 Charleston at home on Jan. 21. The Cougars absolutely hammered the Huskies from Boston 87-61. It just wasn't Northeastern's day as they were outrebounded 46-38, turned the ball over 17 times and shot just 35.7% from the field (8-of-28 3pt). Chris Doherty was the only Northeastern player to score in double figures with 11 points and he also led both teams with 13 rebounds.

Despite the loss, the Huskies have done some good things this season including shooting the three ball. They rank fourth in the CAA while shooting 34.6% from long range, but ninth in defending it (34.2%). They also rank third in rebounding margin at +3.68 and second in blocked shots (4.32). Their major problem last season was at point guard and taking care of the basketball. That's another issue this season as they rank 13th and last in turnover margin (-4.68) and 12th in assist/turnover ratio (0.88).

Senior wing Jaymyl Telfort (6-7, 224) averages 15.8 points per game and 4.7 rebounds with 1.1 steals on 47.6% shooting (37.2% 3pt). He does handle the ball a lot as does Doherty (6-7, 240), a Notre Dame transfer, who adds 9.2 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.4 assists on 55.7% shooting.
