North Texas at UTEP 8/27/22 College Football Picks and Prediction

The North Texas Mean Green and UTEP Miners face off on Saturday in a Week 0 college football showdown at the Sun Bowl. When these two teams faced off in November of 2021 it was North Texas that secured the 20-17 victory.

North Texas didn’t look good early in the season last year, but they closed the season strong and were able to make a bowl game. North Texas won their first game of the season but then went on to lose six straight games. In the second half of the season, North Texas switched to a run-first approach and were able to win five straight games. North Texas gets a lot of offense back from last season with eight starters returning. The offensive line was a strength of the team last year, and it should continue to be this season. Back under center will be Austin Aune who threw for nine touchdowns and nine interceptions last year.

On the other side of this matchup is the UTEP Miners who also finished last season with a 7-6 record overall and after being so bad for so long, it looks like they are finally turning the corner. UTEP returns 15 starters back from last season, and the strength of this team is the defense. Last season UTEP gave up 25.2 points per game, and if the defense can be good here, they can be in good shape to secure the win. Gavin Hardison is back under center for UTEP and last season he threw for 3,200 yards and 18 touchdowns.
