The North Dakota State Bisons will be getting out of the frying pan and into the fire in this matchup. After dropping their season opener to #10 Arkansas on the road, the Bisons continue their early-season trip by heading to Lawrence, KS to take on the defending National Champions, the #5 Kansas Jayhawks. The North Dakota State Bisons finished last season at 23-10 overall and 13-5 in a highly competitive Summit League. They finished a game out of earning the league's automatic bye after falling in the Summit League title game. It will be a new campaign for sure this year with five key members of last year's rotation, including three starters, entered the transfer portal. Now it will be up to head coach David Richman to develop another winning squad.

“Everybody talks about the kids who transferred or left,” Richmond told . “I want to talk about the guys who stuck around. They did the work, and they deserve credit.”

This year's team will feature five incoming freshman and just two transfers amongst their updated roster. The focal point of the Bisons' offense this season will likely be the team's highest returning scorer in 6-11 junior Grant Nelson. Ne lson averaged nearly 12 points per game last season with five rebounds, 1.3 blocks per game while shooting 51% from the field.

On Monday night, the Bisons fell 76-58 to the 10th ranked Razorbacks. Nelson led the way with 17 points and was matched by fellow junior Boden Skunberg with 17 points as well. For Skunberg, it was a career-high in points. The Bisons hung tight for large stretches of the game, including trailing by just eight points, 34-26, at the half. North Dakota State struggled from the field, shooting just 34% while allowing the Razorbacks to shoot 49%. The Bisons also shot just 24% from 3pt range and committed 14 turnovers while forcing 11.
