North Carolina (UNC) vs. Virginia Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 1-10-2023

The North Carolina Tar Heels (11-5, 5-10-1 ATS, 10-6 O/U) collide with the #13 Virginia Cavaliers (11-3, 4-10 ATS, 8-6 O/U) in an ACC bout on Tuesday night. The Tar Heels recorded a decisive home win against Notre Dame on Saturday. The Cavaliers earned a home victory against Syracuse in their previous action. North Carolina beat Virginia in both meetings last season.

The North Carolina Tar Heels have climbed back over the .500 mark in ACC play. They were 1-2 after three ACC games but have rebounded by defeating Wake Forest by an 88-79 score and were 12-point favorites in an 81-64 home win against Notre Dame on Saturday to improve to 3-2 in ACC action. North Carolina has been inconsistent but has now won six out of their last seven games. The Tar Heels have covered the spread in only one of their last four games.

Armando Bacot is in a groove, collecting at least 21 points in three straight ACC performances. The senior forward came one rebound away from a double-double on Saturday and has compiled an average of 18.8 PPG and 11.2 RPG. Caleb Love has shot below 38% in each of his last three performances. The junior guard is averaging 16.9 PPG and has not fared well from beyond the arc where he has logged a 29% efficiency. R.J. Davis scored 13 points last time out. The junior guard has filed an average of 16.4 PPG along with 5.3 RPG.

The Tar Heels are ranked 21st in DI in Ken Pomeroy’s ratings and remained out of the AP Top 25 again this week.  They are surprisingly 0-3 in their three true road games including a loss to Virginia Tech. North Carolina has surpassed 80 points in five out of their last six clashes and is averaging 81.4 points on the season, good for 24th. They are conceding an average of 74.3 points, placing them 313th.
