Niagara at Maryland – 11/7/22 College Basketball Picks and Prediction

The Niagara Purple Eagles will travel to College Park and take on the Maryland Terrapins from the Xfinity Center this Monday evening on B1G+.

Niagara went 14-16 (9-11) last season, and finished tied fifth in the MAAC standings. The Purple Eagles failed to make postseason play last season, but they improved in Greg Paulus’ third year on the sidelines. The former Duke guard has posted a 35-47 record in three seasons at Niagara.

The Purple Eagles lost some of their New York grit with the departures of Marcus Hammond (Queens) and Jordon Cintron (Bronx). That’s big when approaching an underdog spot like this, and there will be early growing season pains for this squad. Noah Thommasson returns after coming over from Houston Baptist, and he’ll shoulder more of a load after scoring 10.9 points per game last year.  Sam Iorio’s return will provide much needed size and experience up front after posting a solid line of 8.3 ppg and 6.1 rpg. We’re going to find out a lot about Greg Paulus’ squad as the season emerges.
