NFL Survivor Pool Week 5 strategy: Resist the Buffalo Bills urge, and breaking down every worthy option

We've made it through four weeks of the NFL season, so I thought it was the perfect time to check back in on our NFL survivor pool strategy'from the preseason and dole out some advice on what to do over the next few weeks with your survivor pool entry.

If you're like me, you revisit your pathing options every week and adjust based on all the information you have ahead of each slate. While the Chargers were my preferred preseason play for Week 3 against the Jaguars in what was expected to be a tough slate, the inju ries to San Diego combined with Jacksonville playing well over the first two weeks meant it was smarter to pivot to using the Eagles in Week 3 and saving the Chargers for Week 4, when they traveled to the Texans, or for later in the year when the team would presumably be healthier.

I'm sharing an entry in the one survivor contest with more than 13,000 participants, and the only reason we're still alive is because that pool advances ties as well as wins, saving us from elimination when the Colts fell flat in Week 1. Many people in other pools where ties don't count survived Week 1 by using the Ravens, but not all; in the Circa Survivor contest, where ties count as losses, 37% of the field that remains still have the Ravens as an option.

And that speaks to the difficulty of talking survivor strategy on a week-to-week basis. There are so many possible options that anyone reading this sentence could've taken that it's hard to tell you a single team t o use that fits your build to date. But what I can do is break down the options you should be considering each week and what the domino effect is of using each. That domino effect is why I'm not using the Buffalo Bills despite them being two-touchdown favorites over the Steelers at home in Kenny Pickett's first career start.
