New York Yankees vs. Toronto Blue Jays Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 9-28-2022

The New York Yankees and the Toronto Blue Jays wrap up their three-game series on Wednesday in Toronto. The Yankees are in the process of wrapping up the American League East Division while the Blue Jays look to maintain the top wildcard seed in the American League. On the mound on Wednesday will be Yankees right-hander Gerrit Cole (12-7, 3.49) taking on the Jays' Mitch White (1-6, 6.12). First pitch is scheduled for 7:07pm EST.

The Yankees seem to have survived a late summer cold spell and are playing much better as the season nears October. The team has nearly clinched the AL East and, with that, will earn the #2 seed in the American League playoffs and a first round bye. The bye will be beneficial for the Yankees as they hope to get the likes of DJ LeMaheiu, Andrew Benintendi and perhaps even Matt Carpenter in time for the playoffs from IL. On Tuesday night, after dropping game one in ten-innings, the Yankees clinched the AL East title with a 5-2 win. The Yankees pounded out 11 hits and five runs to clinch the title while Aaron Judge remained stuck on 60 home runs.

The Yankees' health is the team's primary concern as October looms. LeMahiue has been dealing with a toe injury but has taken batting practice recently. Carpenter may actually be ready to play by the season's final series with Texas and Benintendi is hopeful to be ready for the playoffs but no sooner than that. On the mound for the wounded warriors on Wednesday will be hard-throwing righty Gerrit Cole. Cole is 2-1 in his last five starts but with a slightly elevated ERA of 4.40. He has 12.9 K/9 in that span but has allowed nine home runs in the five games.
