New York Yankees vs. Toronto Blue Jays Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 5-16-2023

The New York Yankees (23-19, 21-20 RL, 18-22-1 O/U) collide with the Toronto Blue Jays (24-16, 22-19 RL, 18-20-2 O/U) in the second of a three-game series on Tuesday evening. The Yankees will send Domingo German to the mound. The Blue Jays reply with Kevin Gausman. The Jays lead the season series 2-1. 

Domingo German will take the mound for the ninth time of the season. German was stellar in his latest start, limiting the Rays to only two runs (one earned) in 5.2 innings, resulting in a loss to dip to 2-3. The veteran had a rough April but has been solid this month and has improved his ERA to 4.00 along with an outstanding 0.96 WHIP in 45 innings pitched. German allowed four runs on five hits in six innings against the Blue Jays last month and is 2-5 with a 4.11 ERA in 35 career innings.

The Bronx Bombers are hot, scoring 24 runs in four games against a stellar Rays pitching this past weekend, and were able to collect two wins in the four meetings. The Yankees now embark on a seven-game road trek. They lost their previous road series in Tampa Bay and have lost three consecutive road series.

DJ LeMahieu had a big series against the Jays last month, going 4 for 8 with one RBI. The veteran slugger is in a groove, amassing an outstanding .870 OPS this month, and now has 18 RBIs and a solid .802 OPS on the season. LeMahieu is 3 for 9 in his career against Kevin Gausman. Stanton remains on the IL.

 The Yankees are posting an average of 4.58 runs per game, ranking them 13th. The pitching staff has accrued a 3.96 team ERA, good for 13th.
