New York Yankees vs. Tampa Bay Rays Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 5-7-2023

The New York Yankees (17-16, 16-17 RL, 11-21-1 O/U) and the Tampa Bay Rays (27-6, 21-12 RL, 18-12-3 O/U) conclude a three-game divisional series on Sunday afternoon. The Yankees will send Gerrit Cole to the mound. The Rays will reply with Josh Fleming. The Rays posted a narrow 5-4 win on Friday.

The Yankees will have Gerrit Cole on the mound to conclude the series. Cole resumed his outstanding work last time out, conceding two runs on five hits in six innings against the Guardians and finished with a no-decision in a game the Guardians won. The ace has been dominant, conceding two or fewer runs in every outing this season, and is sporting a minuscule 1.35 ERA and a 0.90 WHIP complemented by a 5-0 record in 46.2 innings. Cole is 2-7 with a strong 3.52 ERA in 92 career innings against the Rays.

The Bronx Bombers have displayed character battling through injuries in the past week. They earned a big series win against the Guardians prior to this series propelled by stellar pitching. Stanton is out until next month while Judge will be back next week. The Yankees are 4-6 in their last ten games.

The Yankees welcomed Harrison Bader into the lineup for the first time this season earlier this week. The 28-year-old missed the majority of last season due to injury. He went 3 for 11 with the Rays last season and is 2 for 11 with three RBIs at the plate this season. Bader homered in Friday's loss.

The Yankees are scoring an average of 3.94 runs per game, pegging them 24th. The pitching staff has accrued a 3.59 team ERA, good for seventh.
