The New York Yankees are on the road as they make the long, cross-country trek to play the first game of a three-game series with the Seattle Mariners Monday night. New York played the rubber game of a three-game series at home with the Padres Sunday afternoon. The Yankees earned a 3-2 win in 10 innings in the middle game of the set Saturday afternoon. Seattle played the rubber game of a three-game interleague series with the Pirates at home Sunday afternoon. The Mariners picked up a 5-0 win in the middle game of that set Saturday night. Last season, Seattle won the season series 4-2, including taking two of three at home in the most recent series between the teams August 8-10, 2022.

New York managed to win the middle game of their three-game series with the Padres Saturday afternoon to set up Sunday’s rubber game. The Yankees entered Sunday 31-23 on the year and stood third in the AL East, seven games behind Tampa Bay for the top spot in the division. On Saturday, New York finished with eight hits with DJ LeMahieu (run, two RBI) the lone player with two in the contest. LeMahieu hit his sixth homer of the season for the Yankees while Isiah Kiner-Falefa knocked in the winning run with a RBI single in the 10th inning. Luis Severino didn’t factor in the decision as he threw 6.2 innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on one hit with three walks and five strikeouts. Clay Holmes (3-2) earned the win with a scoreless 10th inning, allowing no hits or walks while striking out one.

Domingo German takes the ball for the Yankees here as he logs his 10th start of the season hoping to get on track. He enters the game 2-3 with a 3.75 ERA, a 0.896 WHIP, 15 walks and 49 strikeouts over 48 innings of work this season. German didn’t factor in the decision in his last start, which came against the Blue Jays on the road back on May 16. He threw three innings, allowing no runs on no hits with no walks and two strikeouts in a game the Yankees eventually won by a 6-3 score. German was ejected from that game for using a foreign substance and was suspended for 10 games. In his last three starts, German is 0-1 with a 1.98 ERA, a 0.88 WHIP, five walks and 10 strikeouts over 13.2 innings of work. German makes his fourth career appearance and third start against the Mariners in this contest. He comes in 2-0 with a 3.60 ERA, a 0.933 WHIP, three walks and 15 strikeouts over 15 innings of work against them. German didn’t factor in the decision in his lone career appearance at T-Mobile Park, which came in relief on July 7, 2021. He threw three innings, allowing three runs on three hits with no walks and five strikeouts in a game the Yankees went on to win 5-4.
