New York won their third straight game as they swept the Mets in their two-game Subway Series at home with the triumph Wednesday night. The Yankees entered Thursday leading the AL East by 7.5 games over the Rays so they are still in good position in the playoff picture. On Wednesday night, New York got two hits each from Andrew Benintendi (RBI) and Aaron Judge (run, two RBI) in the victory. Judge launched his league-leading 48th homer of the season in the victory for the Yankees. Frankie Montas didn’t factor in the decision as he threw 5.2 innings, allowing two runs on six hits with one walk and six strikeouts. Clarke Schmidt (5-2) earned the win with three scoreless innings of relief: he allowed three hits with no walks and three strikeouts. Wandy Peralta got the final out for his second save of the year.
