New York Yankees vs. Los Angeles Dodgers Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 6-2-2023

There may not be a more high-profile matchup possible than the Los Angeles Dodgers (34-23) hosting the New York Yankees (34-24). In May, there was only one team that had a better record than these powerhouse clubs. Two of the world's hottest hitters are in these lineups, and four other former MVPs are joining them in this game. Live from Dodger Stadium at 10:10 p.m. EDT, Friday night will be the first meeting between these historic franchises since 2019. It's been a long time since they were once only 15 miles apart.

A 19-10 May was exactly what the Yankees needed after finishing April in last place among the five AL East teams. Aaron Judge came back from injury on May 9 and proceeded to finish the month with the most homers (12) and the highest OPS (1.356) in the majors. He helped the team rise to 11th in runs per game, thanks to MLB's ninth-best slugging percentage. Reinforcements are on the way this series, with Josh Donaldson and more importantly, Giancarlo Stanton, activated off the IL Thursday. Baseballs beware the Bronx Bombers in June.

Tommy Kahnle was also activated for this series after spending the first two months of the season injured. He'll join a bullpen that already leads the big leagues in ERA. If he performs as he has in pinstripes before, the rich are simply getting richer. Luis Severino is getting the start in this one, and he will probably be on a pitch count still. While he's been on the mound effectiveness has been far from an issue, as the two-time All-Star has only allowed three runs (two earned) through 11.1 innings this year. His performance resembles the Cy Young candidate he was early in his career. New York's primary concern is keeping that arm healthy so that it's useful in October.
