New York Mets vs. Washington Nationals Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 5-12-2023

The New York Mets and Washington Nationals get set for a three-game weekend clash, kicking off Friday night in D.C. The Mets have not gotten off to the same kind of start as in 2022 when they jumped out to a big division lead on their way to over 100 wins. The Mets and Nats are separated by just two games at the bottom of the NL East Division. The pitching matchup in game one on Friday night will be Mets' righty Tylor Megill (3-2, 4.33) taking on Nats' lefty Mackenzie Gore (3-2. 3.65). The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM EST.

The New York Mets limp into D.C. with just three wins in their last ten games heading into Thursday afternoon's series finale against the Reds. The Mets have sandwiched two wins in between two separate three-game losing skids as the team tries to find the magic that led to over 100 wins last year. On Thursday afternoon in Cincinnati,  the Mets were blanked 5-0 to lose their fifth straight series. This is the first time the Mets have lost five straight series in nearly ten years.

Tylor Megill gets the call to start on Friday night for the Mets. Megill is 3-2 on the season in seven starts with just one quality start thus far. He has thrown 35.1 innings and allowed 35 hits. Megill's K/9 ratio is 6.9 and has a 4.33 ERA. On the road, Megill is 1-1 in three road starts with an ERA of 5.19. Megill's hard-hit rate is down to a career-low 27.3% but his strikeout percentage is down considerably at 17.3% and his walk percentage is at a career-high 11%.

Key Injuries: C Tomas Nido and OF Tim Locastro are both out.
