The New York Mets (3-1, 3-1 RL, 2-1-1 O/U) collide with the Milwaukee Brewers (2-1, 2-1 RL, 1-2 O/U) in the first of a three-game NL series on Monday night. The Mets will give the nod to veteran Carlos Carrasco. The Brewers will reply with Freddy Peralta. The Mets posted a 4-2 record against Milwaukee last season.
The New York Mets have received outstanding pitching after four games after a 5-1 win on Sunday. They limited the Marlins to only eight runs in the entire series. The only loss was a 2-1 blemish in the second game of the set. The Mets pitching depth is deep which comes in handy considering they already have key injuries to Justin Verlander and closer Edwin Diaz.
Carlos Carrasco will get the nod to begin this series. Carrasco had a solid year in 2022, recording a 3.97 ERA and a 1.33 WHIP accompanied by a 15-7 record in 152 innings pitched. He has excellent command and doesn’t walk many batters. The veteran is no ace but gives Buck Showalter plenty of innings. Carrasco allowed three runs in four innings in his lone meeting against the Brewers last season and is 2-1 with a 3.60 ERA in five career meetings against the foes.

The New York Mets nearly have the same lineup as last season. They did see plenty of exits from the pitching staff including Max Scherzer and Chris Bassitt but added Justin Verlander. The offense will be among the best. Pete Alonso delivered 40 bombs along with 131 RBIs and an .869 OPS last year. He was dangerous against Milwaukee, collecting eight RBIs. It’s been a mediocre start for the star, recording three hits and two RBIs in four games.
Last season the Mets averaged 4.77 runs per game and have scored 17 this season. The pitching staff recorded a 3.57 team ERA in 2021 and has conceded eight runs this year.
