The New York Mets are on the road as they open up a three-game series with the Arizona Diamondbacks Tuesday night. New York took two of three from the Giants at home over the weekend as they won the rubber game of the set 8-4 Sunday night. Arizona missed a chance at a three-game sweep of the Angels on the road over the weekend as they fell 5-2 in the series finale Sunday afternoon. Last season, the Mets took four of the six meetings, including taking two of three on the road in the most recent set April 22-24, 2022.

New York improved to 2-0 in July as they took the rubber game of their three-game series with the Giants at home Sunday night. The Mets entered Monday 38-46 on the season and stood fourth in the NL East, 18.5 games behind the Braves for the top spot in the division. On Sunday night, New York got three hits from Tommy Pham (two runs, RBI) while Pete Alonso (two runs, three RBI), Jeff McNeil (RBI) and Mark Canha (run, RBI) each had two in the win. Canha (his sixth) and Alonso (his 25th) each went deep in the victory. David Peterson didn’t factor in the decision as he threw four innings, allowing one run on three hits with three walks and three strikeouts. Grant Hartwig (1-1) earned the win in relief as he threw two scoreless innings, allowing two hits with one walk and three strikeouts.

Kodai Senga is on the mound for the Mets as he makes his 16th start of the season in th is contest. He comes in 6-5 with a 3.53 ERA, a 1.347 WHIP, 46 walks and 101 strikeouts over 81.2 innings of work this season. Senga didn’t factor in the decision in his last start, which came Wednesday at home against the Brewers. He threw five innings, allowing two runs on five hits with two walks and eight strikeouts in a game the Mets eventually dropped 5-2. In his last three starts, Senga is 0-2 with a 4.24 ERA, a 1.235 WHIP, six walks and 22 strikeouts over 17 innings of work. In his 16th career major league start, he pitches against the Diamondbacks for the first time here. As a result, this marks his first career start at Chase Field.
