New York Islanders at Vancouver Canucks – 1/3/23 NHL Picks and Prediction

The New York Islanders and Vancouver Canucks face off on Tuesday in an NHL showdown at Rogers Arena. When these two teams faced off in March of 2022 it was the Canucks that secured the 4-3 victory. This is the first meeting between the two teams this year.

The Islanders come into this game with a 21-15-2 record overall and they have gone 9-9-2 away from home. In the last game against Seattle, the offense only scored one goal and that led to the three goal defeat. Matthew Brazel finished with one goal on one shot. The Islanders are averaging 3.16 goals while their defense is giving up 2.69 goals per game. The defense is ranked 6th best in the NHL. Brock Nelson has scored 15 goals and added 22 assists so far this season.

On the other side of this matchup is the Canucks who sit with a 16-17-3 record overall and they have gone 7-9-1 at home. On New Years Eve they faced off against the Calgary Flames and they were defeated 3-2. Two games ago against the Winnipeg Jets they were defeated 4-2. The Canucks are averaging 3.39 goals while their defense is giving up 3.81 goals per game. The offense has been good, but the defense is ranked 30th. In this game, it will probably come down to if the defense can step up and make life tough on the Islanders.
