After getting drubbed by the eventual NBA In-Season Tournament champion Lakers in the semifinals in Vegas, the Pelicans had something to prove as they returned to action against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Monday night. Zion Williamson drove home that point with a dominating performance against the Timberwolves, owner of the league's best record. Williamson had 36 points while CJ McCollum added 23 points as the Pelicans took a 121-107 win over the Timberwolves. They improved to 13-11 on the season with the victory.

“I can't just take a back seat or kind of be too laid back,” Williamson said. “So, my thought process was to be aggressive. My teammates trust me.”

New Orleans comes into this matchup as the 16th best scoring team in the NBA, just slightly below average. They are 11th in field goal percentage and just 20th in 3-point shooting. The latter numb er should improve now that McCollum is back full-time to action. The Pelicans are also slightly above average in efficiency, ranking 14th in assist-to-turnover ratio. On the defensive end, the Pels are 18th in points allowed per game this season. They are a solid 13th in defensive field goal percentage and an impressive fourth in 3-point defense. On the glass, despite the presence of Williamson, they are just 16th in the league in total rebounding.

Key Injuries: F Larry Nance and F Matt Ryan are out.
