It’s a quarterfinal matchup of the in-season NBA Tournament as a pair of Western Conference foes lock up on the hardwood in the Golden State. The New Orleans Pelicans are on the road as they make the trip to take on the Sacramento Kings Monday night with the winner advancing to the semifinals in Las Vegas. New Orleans comes in off a 124-118 road loss to Chicago in their previous game Saturday night, losing outright as a 1.5-point favorite. Sacramento downed Denver 123-117 at home Saturday night, covering the line as a 3.5-point favorite, in their previous game. In the all-time regular season series between the teams, the Pelicans own a 41-33 advantage and have won the first two meetings this season. That includes a 117-112 home win in the most recent matchup on November 22.

New Orleans saw their two-game win streak snapped and suffered a third straight road loss as they were defeated by the Bulls Saturday night. The Pelicans fell to 11-10 on the season and stand second in the Southwest Division, one game behind the Mavericks for the top spot in the division. Against Chicago, New Orleans led by as many as seven in the opening quarter only to trail by three after one. The Pelicans led by eight at the half but were outscored 36-21 in the third quarter to trail by seven. New Orleans never got closer than two in the fourth quarter as the Bulls had an answer each time. The Pelicans shot an even 50% from the field, including eight of 25 from three-point range, and allowed the Bulls to shoot 54.5% in the game. Zion Williamson led New Orleans with 27 points and five boards in the loss.

On the season, the Pelicans are 15th in the league in scoring offense as they aver age 114 points per game on the season. New Orleans is 12th in rebounding by collecting 44.2 boards a night while the team ranks 13th in assists by dishing out 26 dimes a night. The Pelicans are 16th in the league in scoring defense as they allow 113.2 points per game so far this year. Brandon Ingram puts up 23.4 points plus 5.2 boards per contest this season while Zion Williamson adds 23.5 points plus 5.8 rebounds a night. CJ McCollum (21.1 points, 4.5 rebounds, 5.9 assists), Jonas Valanciunas (14 points, nine rebounds) and Jordan Hawkins (12.9 points) are solid secondary scoring options. Herbert Jones (11.8 points), Najj Marshall (9.3 points), Matt Ryan (9.3 points), Dyson Daniels, Kira Lewis Jr., Trey Murphy, Jose Alvarado, Jeremiah Robinson-Earl, Larry Nance Jr. and Cody Zeller are key pieces in the Pelicans’ rotation. New Orleans is 8th in field goal percentage by shooting 47.8% from the field as a team this season. The Pelicans are 27th in the league in threes per game as they knock down 10.8 triples per contest and stand 22nd in three-point shooting by hitting 35.2% percent from beyond the arc.

Ryan (calf) is expected to be out until mid-December while Nance Jr. (ribs) is slated to be out until mid-January.
