New Mexico vs. New Mexico State Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 10-15-2022

This Saturday, the (2-4) New Mexico Lobos and the (1-5) New Mexico State Aggies will match up in the seventh week of the 2022 college football season. Kickoff will be at 8:00 PM EST inside Aggie Memorial Stadium. Neither of these teams has started this season how they would have liked, but they will be looking to turn it around in this in-state rivalry game.

The New Mexico Lobos are entering this one after falling to the Wyoming Cowboys, 27-14. The Lobos struggled to consistently move the ball down the field, as they couldn't score enough points to stay competitive in that game. They will look to bounce back in this one.

The New Mexico State Aggies are coming into this one after losing to Florida International University, 21-7. The Aggies also struggled with the ball in their hands, as they couldn't successfully move down the field. They finished that game with 221 total yards of offense . New Mexico State will have to be better on offense if they want to take down the Lobos in this one.

The New Mexico Lobos picked up their second win of the season against UTEP a few weeks back, and they will be aiming to get back into the win column after this game. They have now lost three games in a row, though. On offense, New Mexico is scoring 19.3 points per game and averaging 257.2 total yards. This is the 117th most points scored per game and the 128th most yards. I expect New Mexico to start Miles Kendricks at quarterback, as he has only thrown for three touchdowns and six interceptions this season. He has to protect the ball to give his team a shot in this game. They are currently averaging 118.5 passing yards per game, which is the 126th most in the nation. Last week, they threw for 122 passing yards against Wyoming. Luckily, the Lobos have been better on the ground. They are averaging 138.7 rushing yards per game, which is the 90th most in the country. Watch for Nathaniel Jones out of the backfield, as he leads the team with 255 yards and one touchdown. He is also averaging 3.9 yards per carry. Kendricks also ran for 72 yards against Wyoming last week, as he showed that he could also move the ball with his legs.

On defense, the Lobos are allowing 22.8 points per game and 347.2 total yards, as they have held their own the past two weeks. This is the 50th least amount of points surrendered per game and the 40th least amount of yards. Their run defense has continued to save them, as it hasn't been easy to move the ball on the ground against the Lobos. They are allowing 116.2 rushing yards per game, which is the 30th least in the nation. Their front seven has continued to rally toward the ball, as I would watch for Cody Moon in this one. He leads the team with 47 tackles this season and he has already recorded 3.5 sacks. New Mexico hasn't been as good against the pass, though. They are allowing 231 passing yards per game, which is the 71st least in the nation. Last week, they sur rendered 107 passing yards to the Cowboys.
