New Mexico State vs. UTEP Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 9-10-2022

New Mexico State Aggies (0-2) vs. UTEP Miners (0-2)

New Mexico State takes on UTEP in Week 2 of the 2022 college football season, so we bring you the best Aggies vs. Miners betting pick and odds. These two interconference foes meet each other for the second straight season, and UTEP trounced New Mexico State 30-3 as a 9.5-point road favorite in 2021.

The Miners are firm 16-point home favorites this time around. The Aggies are listed as +500 moneyline underdogs, and the totals sit at 46.5 points. The under is 3-1 in the last four encounters between the Aggies and Miners.

The New Mexico State Aggies fell to 0-2 straight up and ATS following a heavy 38-0 defeat at the Minnesota Golden Gophers in Week 1. After losing 23-12 to the Nevada Wolf Pack in Week Zero, the Aggies completely fell apart at Huntington Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, playing as huge 36-point road dogs.

New Mexico State racked up a paltry 91 total yards and yielded 485 to the Golden Gophers. The Aggies held the ball in possession for just 15:30, averaging 4.4 yards per pass and 1.8 per rush. They couldn’t cope with the Gophers’ ground game, too, as Minnesota finished the game with 297 rushing yards on 57 carries (5.2 yards per rush). It was an emotional duel for the Aggies head coach Jerry Kill, who led the Golden Gophers from 2011 to 2015.

“It destroyed us,” Kill said of his departure in 2015. “I didn’t want to leave the way I went out. That's why I’m coaching now. I want to go out the way I want to, not something taken away from me. People can judge me, I know what I stand for.”

In his first year with the Aggies, Jerry Kill has a tough task to rebuild the roster and help the team improve following a 2-10 record in 2021. Freshman Gavin Frakes has started under center in the previous two weeks, throwing for 186 yards, a TD, and a couple of interceptions. He’ll have to do a much better job in the future days, but the Aggies’ offensive unit obviously lacks talent everywhere. Last year, New Mexico ranked 105th in the country in points scored per game (22.6) and 128th in points allowed per game (40.4).
