The Aggies of New Mexico State fell to 6-5 with an opening round loss to Kent State, 73-63. New Mexico State shot just 40% from the floor and just 4-of-17 from 3pt range. That total stood out due to New Mexico State’s 10th ranked 3pt shooting heading into the game. Issa Muhammed led the way for the Aggies with a double-double of 17 points and 11 rebounds. He was one of three Aggies’ players in double figures. DaJuan Gordon and Deshawndre Washington scored 15 and 14 points respectively.

New Mexico State’s bench did not come through in their opening, scoring a combined four points in the loss. They won the rebounding battle 37-34 despite being ranked 284th in the country in rebounds per game. They will look to regain their shooting form, 40% from 3pt range, against a North Carolina A&T that has marginal 3pt defense.
