The New Jersey Devils are on the road as they make the trip to face the San Jose Sharks Monday afternoon. New Jersey comes in off a 5-2 road victory over Los Angeles Saturday night in the second game of a back-to-back situation in their most recent game. San Jose was crushed 7-1 by Edmonton at home Friday night in their most recent game. In the last 10 meetings, the Sharks own a 6-3-1 advantage though the Devils earned a 2-1 home win in the first matchup this season on October 22, 2022.

New Jersey dropped Los Angeles on the road Saturday night in the second game of a back-to-back and became the first team in the history of the NHL to win 17 of their first 20 road games. The Devils improved to 28-12-3 on the season and stand two points behind the Hurricanes for the top spot in the Metropolitan Division standings. On the year, New Jersey is 6th in scoring as they average 3.53 goals per game on the season. The Devils are tied for 2nd in goals against as they allow 2.61 goals per contest. New Jersey is 20th in power play success as they have cashed in 20.7% of their chances with the man advantage on the year. The Devils are 10th in penalty killing as they successfully navigate through 81% of their shorthanded situations on the season.

Against the Kings, the Devils played their style of game again and earned a road victory to improve to 17-2-1 as the visiting team on the year. New Jersey was outshot 15-6 in the opening period of play but skated off tied at one after 20 minutes of play. After falling behind 1-0 early, the Devils tied the game on Tomas Tatar’s power play goal, his 10th of the season, at 12:51 off assists from Nico Hischier and Jack Hughes. In the second period, New Jersey was outshot 11-7 but outscored the Kings 3-1 to take a 4-2 lead after 40 minutes. Erik Haula gave New Jersey a 2-1 lead with his third goal of the year at 2:37 off an assist from Dawson Mercer. After the Kings tied the game, Nikita Okhotiuk gave the Devils a 3-2 lead with his first of the season at 7:40 off assists from Ondrej Palat and Hughes. Ryan Graves made it 4-2 with his fourth of the year at 10:57 off an assist from Yegor Sharangovich. In the third period, the Devils held a 15-11 edge in shots and scored the lone goal to ice the game. Jesper Bratt closed the scoring with his 18th goal of the season, int o an empty net, at 18:56 off assists from Sharangovich and Graves. Mackenzie Blackwood made 35 saves for the Devils, who were outshot 37-27, in the win. Vitek Vanacek is expected to get the start in goal for this contest.
