The New Jersey Devils face the New York Islanders with both teams on different ends of the standings to start the season. The Devils came into the season as one of the Stanley Cup favorites but are 1-1-1 with consecutive losses. The Islanders have only played two games but have taken care of business, winning both by one goal. Both teams look to improve in the Metropolitan Division and the upcoming game should be a great one.

The Devils are off to a rough start despite their offenses stepping up and scoring 3.33 goals per game. Jack Hughes and Jesper Bratt have scored five goals and six assists to lead the top line but the rest of the offense has been great as well. Erik Haula, Tyler Toffoli, and Michael McLeod have scored three goals and three assists while defensemen Dougie Hamilton and Jonas Seigenthaler have added two goals and five assists from the point to open up the offense.

The offense has been great but the defense has unraveled, allowing 3.33 goals per game with eight goals in the last two games. Dougie Hamilton and Jonas Seigenthaler have led the top pairing but the rest of the unit has struggled, allowing opponents to find open shots on the net at will. In addition, goaltender Vitek Vanecek has struggled with a .892 save percentage and a 3.62 goals-against average on 65 shots.
