The New Jersey Devils face the Chicago Blackhawks with both teams heading in opposite directions to begin the season. The Devils have a 6-3-1 record and are in second place in the Metropolitan Division. The Blackhawks have a 3-6 record which is the worst in the Central Division. The Devils look to remain near the top of the Eastern Conference while the Blackhawks look to climb the standings and the upcoming game should be a good one.

The Devils are having a great season with their offense leading the way, scoring 3.90 goals per game with 15 goals in the last four games. Jack Hughes, Jesper Bratt, and Tyler Toffoli have scored 19 goals and 30 assists to lead the top two lines but the rest of the offense has also stepped up. Timo Meier, Erik Haula, and Alexander Holtz have combined for 10 goals and nine assists while defensemen Dougie Hamilton and Luke Hughes have added five goals and nine assists from the point to put the offense over the top.

The offense has been great but the defense has struggled, allowing 3.60 goals per game. Luke Hughes and John Marino have led the top two pairings with 19 blocked shots but the rest of the unit has struggled, allowing opponents to find open shots on the net with ease. In addition, goaltender Vitek Vanecek has struggled with a .893 save percentage and a 3.21 goals-against average on 196 shots with -2.7 goals saved above average.
