New Jersey Devils vs. Carolina Hurricanes Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 5-3-2023

The New Jersey Devils face the Carolina Hurricanes in Game One of the Second Round. The Devils won their First Round series in seven games against the rival New York Rangers to advance to the Second Round for the first time in 11 years. The Hurricanes defeated the New York Islanders in six games and are hoping to advance to the Eastern Conference Final for the first time since 2019. Both teams are looking to start this series out strong and Game One looks to be a great one.

The Devils won four of the final five games in the First Round to win the series but hope their offense can step up in the upcoming series after scoring only 17 goals in the First Round. Jack Hughes, Erik Haula, and Ondrej Palat have scored nine goals and seven assists to lead the top two lines but the rest of the offense has struggled. The hope is that Dougie Hamilton steps up at the point as he scored 22 goals and 52 assists this season but only had one goal and two assists in the First Round.

The offense struggled but the defense carried the Devils, allowing only 17 goals including only seven goals in the last five games and a Game Seven shutout. Dougie Hamilton and Jonas Seigenthaler have led the top pairing while John Marino, Ryan Graves, and Damon Severson have also stepped up, creating turnovers in all three one and limiting shots on the net. Additionally, goaltender Akira Schmid was rem arkable in the First Round with a .951 save percentage and a 1.38 goals-against average on 142 shots with 6.2 goals saved above average.
