New England Patriots vs. Buffalo Bills Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 1-8-2023

Once Upon A Time In Las Vegas

The Patriots and Bills will face the tall task of having to play a very meaningful football game on Sunday afternoon following the severe injury to Bills’ safety Damar Hamlin on Monday night. Hamlin, who remained in the intensive care unit on Thursday, was taken off the field on Monday, which led to the cancelation of the remainder of the game. New England picked up a much-needed win against Miami last week, but it still needs a win on Sunday to keep its playoff hopes alive.

New England got off to a slow start this season when it lost three of its first four games, but it responded by winning five of its next six games. The Patriots went cold after that, dropping four of their next five contests. They were finally able to get back on track with a 23-21 win against Miami last week. New England quarterback Mac Jones connected with wide receiver Jakobi Myers on a late touchdown pass to give his team the lead. Jones made multiple big plays down the stretch, helping his team snap a four-game losing streak to its AFC East rivals. The Patriots are now in a simple win-and-in scenario on Sunday, as they only need a win to make the playoffs.

Jones went 20 of 33 for 203 passing yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions in the win over Miami. The Patriots failed to cover the spread as 3-point favorites due to a late Miami touchdown, and they have now only covered the spread once in their last six games. They have not performed well as underdogs, going 1-7 straight up and 2-6 against the spread in that role this season. Their offense has not been good for most of the year, ranked No. 26 in yards per game (312.9). They are facing a Buffalo defense that ranks fifth in the NFL, allowing 317.7 yards per contest. Jones has completed 65.2% of his passes for 2,754 yards, 11 touchdowns and eight interceptions this season. Running back Rhamondre Stevenson has racked up 986 rushing yards and five touchdowns, averaging 4.8 yards per carry.
