NBA top picks
The Lakers received devastating news Monday when Shams Charania of The Athletic announced that LeBron James will miss multiple weeks with a foot injury suffered Sunday against Dallas. The Lakers are 1-7 on the road straight-up without James in the lineup, sporting a minus-13.5 point differential. To make matters worse, the team will also be without D'Angelo Russell in Memphis.
While Los Angeles deals with notable injuries, Memphis' injury report is mostly clean other than Steven Adams, who remains out indefinitely. The Grizzlies are 18-11-1 against the spread at home and 16-11-1 as home favorites this season, and the team should have no issue covering this large spread against a Lakers team missing its leader.
The Bucks head into Barclays Center sporting a league-best 14-game win streak, and the team will look for another victory against the new-look Nets. The Bucks have covered in nine games on their win streak, including six of the last eight. Milwaukee is a favorable 10-5-2 ATS as the road favorite.
The Nets have been solid ATS as home dogs this season, going 5-4 in that situation. If we look a little deeper, we'll see that four of those games in which they covered came in four straight games from Feb. 4 to 9, in which Cam Thomas averaged a ridiculous 38.5 points on nearly 50% shooting.
Thomas isn't coming to save the day for Brooklyn here, and this fully healthy Milwaukee team is a far more talented squad that should have no problem covering this spread on the road.
Dallas has been one of the worst teams ATS all season, and that hasn't changed much with Kyrie Irving now in the fold. The Mavs are just 10-18-3 at home and 9-17-2 as home favorites. Dallas has lost and failed to cover in four of its last five outings.
Indiana hasn't been tremendous ATS as the road dog this season, but it hasn't been terrible either, going 11-15. The Pacers have won two of the last three contests and covered in three straight.
In a rare instance, Indiana's injury report is completely clean, and a healthy Pacers squad can cover this large spread.
Fresh off a historic 71-point performance, Lillard will look to guide his team to a rare road victory at Golden State. The Warriors are 19-11-1 ATS at home and 15-11-1 as home favorites. Despite dealing with multiple injuries throughout the season, the team is 24-7 SU at home.
Portland is 11-11 ATS as the road dog and 9-13 SU in that situation. Those trends won't dissuade us from rolling with the Blazers, as the team is 15-11 SU when Lillard scores at least 30 points this season. He's done so in five straight and 11 of the team's last 13 outings. He's scored at least 40 points in six of those, and his team is 8-4 when he hits that lofty point total. We'll ride the hot hand and bet the upset.
