Nashville started the year with two straight wins over in Prague but they have gone just 1-6-1 on North American soil after losing to the Oilers. The Predators entered Wednesday 3-6-1 on the season and stood tied for sixth in the Central Division, six points behind the division-leading Stars. Nashville is tied for 28th in the league in goals per game as they put up an average of 2.60 goals per contest this season. The Predators are tied for 23rd in goals against by allowing an average of 3.50 goals per game on the year. Nashville is 28th in the league in power play success as they cash in on 13.2% of their chances with the man advantage. The Predators are 10th in penalty killing as they successfully navigate through 82.1% of their shorthanded situations this season.

Against Edmonton, Nashville got off to a quick start but the wheels came off shortly therea fter as they went down in defeat. The Predators were outshot 14-8 in the opening period and outscored 4-1 to trail big at the first intermission. Mattias Ekholm opened the scoring with his first goal of the season just 34 seconds into the game off assists from Matt Duchene and Mikael Granlund. Nashville gave up four unanswered goals in the stanza to end up in a hole they couldn’t get out of. In the second period, the Predators were outshot 14-8 with both teams scoring once to leave the visitors down 5-2 after 40 minutes. After giving up a fifth straight goal to go down 5-1, Ryan Johansen got the Predators back within three with a power play goal, his fourth of the season, at 9:28 off assists from Roman Josi and Filip Forsberg. The third period saw Nashville outshot 9-7 with both teams scoring twice to leave the margin the same as time expired. Forsberg made it a 5-3 game with his third of the season at 4:51 off assists from Duchene and Granlund. After Edmonton tallied to rest ore their three-goal margin, Nino Neiderreiter made it a two-goal game again with his fifth of the season, on the power play, at 17:10. Josi and Forsberg drew the assists on that goal. The Predators gave up an empty net goal just over a minute later to close the scoring. Juuse Saros made 30 saves for Nashville, who was outshot 37-23, in the loss. He is expected to get the start in goal again in this contest.
