N.Y. Rangers vs. Washington Capitals Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 2-25-2023

A pair of Eastern Conference rivals attempting to secure postseason spots, meet on the ice Saturday when the New York Rangers (33-16-9, 75 points, 6th Eastern Conference) visit the Washington Capitals (28-26-6, 62 points, 12th Eastern Conference). New York was defeated by the Detroit Red Wings 4-1 on Thursday and the Rangers have lost three straight since winning seven in a row. Washington is playing even worse, as the Capitals lost to Anaheim 4-2 on Thursday night and have lost each of their last six. New York does not have any players listed on its injury report. Washington will play without Connor Brown, John Carlson, Carl Hagelin and Anthony Mantha.

 New York is allowing an average of 2.72 goals per game which is 7th best in the NHL. New York's top goalie Igor Shesterkin is 25-9-7 with a 2.59 goals against average, .912 save percentage and has one shut out. Prior to losing on Monday to Winnipeg, Shesterkin had won four consecutive starts for the Rangers. New York is allowing an average of 29.3 shots per game and the penalty kill unit for the Rangers is holding opponents scoreless 79.4% of the time New York is shorthanded which is 16th best.

 

On attack, New York is scoring an average of 3.28 goals per game which is 11th highest in the NHL. Mika Zibanejad has scored a team best 30 goals, while Chris Carter has scored 24. Artemi Panarin is the leader in assists with 47 and has the points lead with 65 and Zibanejad is second with 60 points. New York's power play has scored 40 goals in 58 games led by Zibanejad with 17 goals.
