A pair of Eastern Conference teams take the ice in search of a win north of the border in the capital city of Canada. The New York Rangers are on the road as they make the trip to take on the Ottawa Senators Tuesday night. New York was in action at home Sunday night as they hosted the Sharks and skated off with a 6-5 victory. Ottawa picked up a 2-0 shutout win over Seattle at home Saturday night in their most recent contest. In the last 10 meetings between the teams, the Rangers own a narrow 5-4-1 advantage but the Senators have taken the last two meetings. New York was in action against San Jose Sunday night, where they emerged with a high-scoring win, and head into this game looking to extend their advantage in the Metropolitan Division race. The Rangers improved to 18-4-1 on the year and entered Monday night with an eight-point lead over Washington and Carolina for the top spot in the Metropolitan Division. New York entered Monday 8th in the league with an average of 3.43 goals per game. The Rangers are sixth by allowing 2.57 goals per game this season. New York is third when it comes to success with the man advantage as they have converted 30% of their power play opportunities this season. The Rangers are 10th in the league by successfully navigating 84.2% of their shorthanded situations on the season.

Against the Sharks, the Rangers got more than they bargained for in a high-scoring affair but managed to skate away with a vic tory. In the opening period, New York held a 15-9 edge in shots on goal and skated off with a 3-2 lead on the scoreboard. After falling behind 1-0, Artemi Panarin tied the game with his 13th goal of the season, on the power play, at 8:44 off assists from Mika Zibanejad and Adam Fox. The Sharks went back in front before Panarin knotted the game again with his second goal of the night and 14th of the season at 12:55 with assists going to Vincent Trocheck and Alexis Lafreniere. Zibanejad gave the Rangers their first lead of the night at 16:42 with his sixth goal of the season with assists going to Chris Kreider and Jonny Brodzinski. In the second period, New York owned a 14-9 shot advantage with each team scoring once, leaving them in front 4-3 at the second intermission. After San Jose tied the score, Will Cuyle gave the Rangers a 4-3 lead with his fourth goal of the season at 16:03 off assists from Nick Bonino and Jacob Trouba. The third period saw the Rangers o utshot 10-7 with each team scoring twice, leaving the hosts up a goal as time expired. Panarin capped his hat trick with his third goal of the night and 15th of the season at 4:41 off assists from Trocheck and Brodzinski for a 5-3 lead. K’Andre Miller made it a 6-3 game with his fourth goal of the season at 13:04 with Panarin and Trouba drawing the assists. New York gave up a pair of goals 1:02 apart late to narrow the lead to one but managed to hang on for the victory. Jonathan Quick made 23 saves for the Rangers, who were outshot 36-28, in the win. Igor Shesterkin is slated to be between the pipes for this game.
