It’s an interconference matchup on the ice as a pair of division leaders take the ice in the Lone Star State. The New York Rangers are on the road as they travel to take on the Dallas Stars Monday night. New York comes in a 5-3 road victory over New Jersey in their previous contest Saturday night. Dallas was upended 6-3 at home by Colorado in their previous contest Saturday night. In the last 10 meetings between the teams, the Stars own a 5-4-1 advantage though the Rangers have won the last three meetings. That includes a 2-1 overtime win at home in the most recent meeting on January 12, 2023.

New York won their fourth straight game as they rallied to down the Devils on the road in their previous game Saturday night. The Rangers improved to 12-2-1 on the year and entered Sunday night with a five-point lead over Washington and Carolina for the top spot in the Metropolitan Division. New York entered Sunday 13th in the league with an average of 3.40 goals per game. The Rangers are second by allowing 2.20 goals per game this season. New York is second when it comes to success with the man advantage as they have converted 33.3% of their power play opportunities this season. The Rangers are 8th in the league by successfully navigating 84.8% of their shorthanded situations on the season.

Against the Devils, the Rangers needed a strong third period on the road and got it to earn their fourth straight victory. The shots were even at 10 in the opening period and the teams skat ed off tied at two on the scoreboard at the first intermission. Artemi Panarin opened the scoring with his ninth goal of the season, on the power play, at 8:37 off assists from Vincent Trocheck and Erik Gustafsson. After the Devils tied the game, Jimmy Vesey gave New York a 2-1 lead with his second goal of the year at 14:11 off assists from Braden Schneider and Zac Jones. They gave up the equalizer later in the period. The shots were even at 11 in the second period with neither team scoring, keeping the game tied at two after 40 minutes. In the third period, New York held a 14-12 edge in shots and outscored the Devils 3-1 to earn the win. After giving up a goal to trail 3-2, Panarin tallied his second of the night and 10th of the season at 11:04 off an assist from Trocheck. Vesey gave the Rangers a 4-3 lead with his second of the night and third of the season off assists from Tyler Pitlick and Trocheck. Blake Wheeler closed the scoring with an empty net goal, his second o f the year, unassisted at the 18:27 mark. Igor Shesterkin made 30 saves for the Rangers, who held a 35-33 edge in shots on goal, in the win. Jonathan Quick is expected to get the start in goal here.
