The New York Rangers are on the road as they make the trip to face the league-leading Boston Bruins Saturday afternoon. New York was beaten 5-3 at home by Ottawa Thursday night in their previous contest. Boston broke open a tight game against Buffalo with a third-period explosion as they rolled to a 7-1 victory at home Thursday night. In the last 10 meetings between the teams, the Bruins own a 6-3-1 edge and have won the last three meetings, including a 3-1 road win in the most recent clash on January 19.

New York saw their two-game win streak come to a halt as they lost for the fifth time in seven games with a defeat at home to Ottawa Thursday night. The Rangers entered Friday third in the Metropolitan Division, seven points behind the Hurricanes for the top spot. New York is slightly average offensively this season as they average 3.29 goals per contest, leaving them 12th in the league in goals per game. The Rangers are 11th in the league in goals against per game as they give up 2.79 goals a night. New York is slightly above average with the man advantage as they convert 22.6% of their chances on the power play, which is 12th in the league. The Rangers are average in the penalty killing department as they successfully navigate 79% of their shorthanded situations, putting them 17th in the league.

Against Ottawa, New York held the lead after each of the fi rst two periods before things unraveled in the final 20 minutes, sending them to defeat. The Rangers owned a 12-8 advantage in shots on goal in the opening period and skated away with a 1-0 lead on the scoreboard after 20 minutes of play. Chris Kreider opened the scoring with a shorthanded goal, his 27th of the season, at 6:31 off assists from Adam Fox and Mika Zibanejad. In the second period, each team had 14 shots on goal and each side lit the lamp twice, leaving the Rangers up 3-2 at the second intermission. After giving up a pair of goals to trail 2-1, Jacob Trouba tied the game for New York with his fifth goal of the year at 12:15 off assists from Artemi Panarin and Vincent Trocheck. Vladimir Tarasenko gave the Rangers a 3-2 advantage with his 14th goal of the year at 14:54 off assists from Zibanejad and Ben Harpur. The third period saw New York outshot 12-6 and they were outscored 3-0 in the stanza to wind up on the wrong end of the scoreboard. Jaroslav H alak made 29 saves for the Rangers, who were outshot 34-32, in the loss. Igor Shesterkin is expected to get the start in goal for this contest.
