N.Y. Islanders vs. Washington Capitals Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 3-29-2023

The New York Islanders face the Washington Capitals with both teams looking to improve in the playoff picture in the final few games of the season. The Islanders have a 38-28-9 record and hold the top wild card spot in the Eastern Conference while the Capitals have a 34-32-8 record but with only three wins in their last 10 games, they remain on the outside of the playoff picture looking in. Both teams look to improve in the Eastern Conference and make a push for the playoffs and the upcoming game should be a great one as a result.

The Islanders are having a great season but hope their offense improves, scoring 2.99 goals per game. Brock Nelson and Anders Lee have scored 59 goals and 58 assists to lead the top line but the rest of the offense has struggled. The hope is that Bo Horvat and Pierre Engvall can step up as they were both acquired at the trade deadline but have only combined for 10 goals and seven assists since being added to the lineup.

The offense has struggled but the defense is one of the best in the NHL, allowing only 2.68 goals per game with only three goals in the last two games. Ryan Pulock and Alexander Romanov have combined for 8.4 defensive point shares and 248 blocked shots while Scott Mayfield, Adam Pelech, and Noah Dobson have combined for 11.0 defensive point shares to add depth to the unit. Additionally, goaltender Ilya Sorokin has been great with a .923 save percentage and a 2.39 goals-against a verage on 1656 shots with 31.9 goals saved above average.
