The New York Islanders face the Washington Capitals with both teams looking to improve on the strong starts to the season. The Islanders have a 14-8-8 record and are in third place in the Metropolitan Division while the Capitals have a 15-9-4 record and are in fifth place in the Metropolitan Division. Both teams look to leap to the top of the division and the Eastern Conference and the upcoming game should be a great one.

The Islanders are having a great season with their offense stepping up and scoring 3.10 goals per game. Mathew Barzal and Bo Horvat have scored 22 goals and 40 assists to lead the top line but the rest of the offense has been great as well. Brock Nelson, Pierre Engvall, and Kyle Palmieri have combined for 28 goals and 30 assists while defenseman Noah Dobson has added five goals and 27 assists from the point to open up the offense.

The offense has been great but the defense has struggled, allowing 3.23 goals per game. Noah Dobson and Alexander Romanov have combined for 4.2 defensive point shares but the rest of the unit has struggled, allowing opponents to find open shots on the net with ease. The bright spot has been the play of goaltender Semyon Varlamov who has a .919 save percentage and a 2.73 goals-against average on 371 shots with 5.7 goals saved above average.
