The Islanders are having a great season with their offense leading the way, scoring 3.07 goals per game with 4.33 goals per game in December. Mathew Barzal and Bo Horvat have scored 20 goals and 36 assists to lead the top line but the entire offense has looked great. Brock Nelson, Kyle Palmieri, and Pierre Engvall have combined for 25 goals and 29 assists while defenseman Noah Dobson has added five goals and 24 assists from the point to open up the offense.

The offense has looked great but the defense continues to be a weak link, allowing 3.14 goals per game. Noah Dobson and Alexander Romanov have combined for 3.9 defensive point shares and 131 blocked shots but the rest of the unit has struggled, allowing opponents to find open shots on the net with ease. The bright spot has been the play of goaltender Semyon Varlamov who has a .921 save percentage and a 2.60 goals-against average on 331 shots with 5.9 goals saved above average.
