The New York Islanders are on the road as they make the trip to take on the Colorado Avalanche Tuesday night. New York was dropped 3-1 by the Penguins on the road in their previous contest Sunday night. Colorado picked up a 3-1 home victory over San Jose Sunday night in their most recent contest. In the last 10 meetings between the teams, the Avalanche own a 6-3-1 advantage and have taken the last two meetings. That includes a 7-4 road win in the first matchup this season on October 24, 2023.

New York lost for the fifth time in their last eight games as they were shut down by the Penguins in their previous contest Sunday night. The Islanders entered Monday tied for third in the Metropolitan Division with a 17-10-9 record, eight points behind the Rangers for the top spot. They owned the top wild card spot in the Eastern Conference. New York is 20th in goals per game as they average 3.03 goals per contest. The Islanders are tied for 18th in goals against per game as they allow 3.22 goals a night. New York is 11th in power play success as they convert 23% of their chances with the man advantage this season. The Islanders are 29th in penalty killing as they successfully get through 73.4% of their shorthanded situations this year.

Against Pittsburgh, New York struggled against the Penguins for the second time this season and it sent them to defeat t o close out 2023. The Islanders held a 14-11 edge in shots on goal in the opening period but they were down 1-0 on the scoreboard after 20 minutes of play. In the second period, New York saw the shots even at 12 but they gave up the only goal of the period to trail 2-0 at the second intermission. The third period saw the Islanders outshot by a 15-12 margin with both teams scoring once, leaving them on the wrong end of the scoreboard. Samuel Bolduc got the Islanders on the board with his first goal of the season at 13:51 with an unassisted marker. That was as close as the visitors would get as they gave up an empty-net goal to close the scoring here. Ilya Sorokin made 35 saves for the Islanders in a game where both teams fired 38 shots on net, in the loss. He is slated to get the start between the pipes again here.
