The New York Islanders face the Buffalo Sabres with both teams heading in opposite directions to start out the season. The Islanders had a strong home stand with two impressive wins and are near the top of the Metropolitan Division. The Sabres are 1-3 and in last place in the Atlantic Division. These two teams met a week ago in a one-goal game and the upcoming game should also be a great one.

The Islanders are off to a strong start to the season but hope their offense can step up, scoring only 2.00 goals per game. Brock Nelson and Kyle Palmieri have scored two goals and two assists but the rest of the offense has struggled. The hope is that Bo Horvat steps up and starts finding the back of the net as he scored 38 goals last season but has yet to record a point.

The offense has struggled but the defense has been remarkable, allowing only 1.00 goals per game. Adam Pelech and Noah Dobson have led the top pairing with eight blocked shots while Ryan Pulock, Alexander Romanov, and Sebastian Aho have rounded out the unit, creating turnovers in all three zones and limiting shots on the net. With the team playing the second game of a back-to-back, the hope is that backup goaltender Semyon Varlamov can step up in his season debut as he had a .913 save percentage and a 2.70 goals-against avera ge on 689 shots last season.
