Murray State vs. Indiana State Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 2-4-2023

A pair of teams from the Missouri Valley Conference take the floor looking to put one in the win column in the Hoosier State. The Murray State Racers are on the road as they make the trek to take on the Indiana State Sycamores Saturday afternoon. Murray State slipped past Belmont, taking an 83-82 win at home Thursday night, winning outright as a one-point underdog, in their previous contest. Indiana State trounced Evansville 83-65 on the road in their most recent contest Thursday night, covering the line as a 14-point favorite. In the all-time series between the programs, the Sycamores own a 4-3 advantage but the Racers have taken the last two meetings. That includes an 82-73 home win in the first meeting this season on January 21.

Murray State won their second straight game as they edged Belmont at home in their previous contest. The Racers ran their record to 13-10 overall and stand tied for fifth in the conference with an 8-5 mark, one game behind a quartet of teams for the top spot. Against Belmont, Murray State trailed by five in the first half before going on a 21-6 run that put them in front 33-23 with 6:55 to play in the half. The Racers were up six at the half and pushed the lead to as many as 12 in the second half only to see Belmont charge back. Murray State found themselves tied at 75 with 3:36 remaining before scoring the next five points to regain control. The Racers hung on down the stretch to earn the win. Murray State shot 53.1% from the field, including eight of 15 from three-point range, and won the rebounding battle 37-31. Brian Moore Jr. led the Racers with 25 points, six rebounds and five assists in the game.

The Racers are an average offensive unit as they come into this contest averaging 71.2 points per game this season, putting them 190th in the nation in scoring offense. Murray State pulls down 36.9 rebounds per contest while handing out an average of 11.9 assists a night. The Racers are average defensively, ranking 190th in scoring defense by allowing an average of 69.7 points a night. Rob Perry leads the team and is one of three players averaging in double figures with 15.1 points plus 4.8 rebounds per game this season. Jamari Smith (12.2 points, 4.9 rebounds) and JaCobi Wood (11 points, 4.4 rebounds, 4.7 assists) are good secondary scoring options. DJ Burns, Kenny White Jr., Quincy Anderson, Brian Moore and Justin Morgan are key role players for coach Steve Prohm. Murray State shoots 44.6% from the field as a team on the year. The Racers splash 5.9 three-pointers a night while shooting 30.7% from beyond the arc. Murray State is slightly above average at the charity stripe, converting 73.5% of their attempts this season.
