Morehead State vs. Georgia Southern Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 12-14-2022

The Morehead State Eagles (5-5) hit the road to W.S. Hanner Fieldhouse for a matchup with the Georgia Southern Eagles (6-4) at 7 p.m. ET on Wednesday. Georgia Southern is a 4.5-point favorite with the total set at 129.5 points.

The Morehead State Eagles haven’t won consecutive games since Nov. 12 and hold a losing record ATS (3-4) through 10 games. Now, the Eagles face their longest road trip of the season to take on Georgia Southern. These two programs have only met once — last December — with Morehead securing a 59-51 victory at home. The Eagles hold a 60-65 all-time record against current Sun Belt Conference opponents and rank top two in the OVC in three-point percentage defense (27%, No. 25 in NCAA), scoring defense (68.4 ppg), rebounding margin (+5.3) and blocked shots (3.8 bpg).

Senior forward Alex Gross leads the Eagles with 12.8 points and 7.6 rebounds per game, while also leading the OVC in offensive rebounds (3.3 oreb per game). Gross is the only current Division I players to record 2,000-plus points and 1,200-plus boards in college. Senior guard Mark Freeman, the team’s second-leading scorer at 12 points per game, has now scored double figures in 41 career games between Tennessee State, Illinois State and Morehead State. Eagles coach Preston Spradlin is just the second head coach in school history to lead his group to two-straight 20-win seasons and sits three wins away from becoming the sixth coach to earn 100-plus wins.
