The Montreal Canadiens face the Winnipeg Jets with both teams on opposite ends of the standings. The Canadiens have a 13-13-4 record and with only four wins in their last 10 games, they are near the bottom of the Atlantic Division. The Jets have an 18-9-2 record and with two wins in a row, they have leaped into first place in the Central Division. The Canadiens look to climb out of the bottom of the Eastern Conference while the Jets look to remain near the top of the Western Conference and the upcoming game should be a good one.

The Canadiens are having a season to forget with their offense struggling and scoring only 2.70 goals per game. Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Sean Monahan have scored 25 goals and 40 assists to lead the top two lines but the rest of the offense has struggled. Only three active skaters have six goals or more and opponents can eliminate the hapless offense as a result.

The offense has struggled but the defense has let the Canadiens down, allowing 3.37 goals per game with seven goals in their last two games. Johnathan Kovacevic and Kaiden Guhle have combined for 2.5 defensive point shares and 116 blocked shots but the rest of the unit has struggled, allowing opponents to find open shots on the net with ease. The bright spot has been the play of goaltender Sam Mountembeault who has a .911 save percentage and a 2.79 goals-against average on 439 shots with 3.2 goals saved above average.
