The Montreal Canadiens face the Washington Capitals with both teams hoping to start the year strong. The Canadiens finished last season with the worst record in the NHL but have looked promising early on in the season while the Capitals are looking to rebound from a slow 0-2 start to the season. Both teams are looking to take steps forward in the Eastern Conference this season and the upcoming game should be a good one as a result.

The Canadiens had one of the worst offenses in the NHL last year, averaging only 2.66 goals per game, but early on this season, they've stepped up, scoring 4.00 goals per game. Cole Caufield and Nick Suzuki have combined for two goals and two assists to lead the top line but the rest of the offense has also been great. Josh Anderson, Sean Monahan, and Kirby Dach have combined for two goals and an assist while defenseman David Savard has added an assist from the point to help open up the offense.

While the offense has looked great, the defense hopes to improve as they've allowed 3.00 goals per game thus far this year. David Savard and Jordan Harris have led the top pairing but the rest of the unit has struggled and allowed opponents to find open shots on the net at will. In addition, Jake Allen looks to step up in the net as he's saved 29 of 32 shots on the season.
