The Canadiens are having a season to forget with their offense struggling and scoring only 2.70 goals per game. Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Sean Monahan have scored 36 goals and 57 assists to lead the top two lines but the rest of the offense has struggled. Only three skaters have scored eight goals or more and opponents can eliminate the hapless offense as a result.

The offense has struggled while the defense has also been a mess, allowing 3.35 goals per game. Johnathan Kovacevic and Mike Matheson have combined for 3.1 defensive point shares but the rest of the unit has struggled, allowing opponents to find open shots on the net with ease. The one bright spot has been the play of goaltender Samuel Mountembeault who has a .909 save percentage and a 2.89 goals-against average on 640 shots with 3.7 goals saved above average.
