The Montreal Canadiens resume a three-game road trek. They opened the trip with a competitive performance, losing 3-2 in a shootout to the Golden Knights who are 1st in the NHL standings. Montreal is exceeding expectations early this season. They are a young rebuilding squad and are not expected to be a playoff team. They are 2-0-1 in their last three games.

Cole Caufield is consistently producing, netting at least one point in all but two games this season. The 22-year-old winger has issued five points in his last four games and leads the squad with 10 points on the season. He netted two goals against the Coyotes last season. Nick Suzuki has earned points in three consecutive games including three points in a recent win against the Blue Jackets. The 24-year-old captain now has eight points on the year.

The Habs acquired Alex Newhook in the offseason in a deal with the Avs. The young center has four points and a poor minus-five rating. One of the squad's better players, Kirby Dach, is out for the remainder of the season.

The Habs will continue to share the goaltending duties with Sam Montembault and Jake Allen. Montembault has been shaky, recording a 2.91 GAA and a .905 save % while Allen has a 2.63 GAA and an outstanding .930 save % to go with a 3-0-1 record.

Montreal is averaging a respectable 3.1 goals per game, ranking them 16th. They are conceding an average of 3.2 goals, placing them 21st in the NHL.
