Josh Anderson scored the winning goal with only 19 seconds remaining in the third period to give the Canadians the upset victory.

After one game of the regular season, Cole Caufield is the leading goal scorer for Montreal with two, while Nick Suzuki is the leader in assists two. Caufield and Suzuki are the leaders in overall points with two apiece. Sean Monahan and Josh Anderson have each scored one goal. Detroit opens its regular season on Friday when hosting Montreal. The Red Wings were 3-5 during the preseason. Last season Detroit finished 32-40-10 with 70 points and missed the playoffs. New additions to the Detroit lineup include Ben Chiarot, Andrew Copp, Ville Husso, David Perron and Olli Maatta. Detroit lost Thomas Greiss, Calvin Pickard and Mark Staal during the off-season.

The most interesting offseason acquisition was Dominik Kubalik, who has been a 30-goal per season scorer but last season with the Chicago Blackhawks posted just 32 points in 78 games. Dylan Larkin returns along with Tyler Bertuzzi, Lucas Raymond and Mortiz Seider to give Detroit a very talented group of young stars. Last season Detroit was hurt by a poor defense, finishing with a 4.33 goals-against average which was last in the NHL, but added talented defense Chiarot and goalie Husso.
